Since early on in the Pandemic, masks have always been a hot topic.

Here in the UK, we were first advised that they were a good idea, but were not mandatory - due to the amount of controversy about their effectiveness and the fact that we were in a National Lockdown. But since then, the lockdowns eased and masks were made mandatory in indoor public spaces, offices, schools, supermarkets, public transport, etc. As the lockdown eased further, earlier this year, masks were not longer manadtory in these areas, but rather an option. Now, it's the 30th November 2021, masks are now mandatory once again in shops and on public transport.

Why should we wear face masks?

Aside from the fact that this is what the government suggests, face masks help to protect us and others around us.

OK, we've all heard this before.

How does that actually work?

When you speak, cough and sneeze, tiny droplets are released into the air. These droplets may carry harmful particles. Wearing a face mask can reduce the number of droplets released from the wearer into the air, which can protect others, especially if you've just been in contact with someone who tested positive in the last few days.
